Тарас Опалинський Taras Opalinski
Художник Artist
Taras Opalinski is a Ukrainian artist born in Lviv. Art has been an integral part of his life since early childhood and gradually evolved from an inner calling into a conscious creative path. He received his professional education at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, where he completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
The artist’s practice is centered on abstraction as a universal visual language. Taras Opalinski works with a variety of materials and forms — from painting to spatial and volumetric solutions — freely combining techniques in response to the idea and inner sensibility of each work. His approach is largely intuitive: every piece emerges through feeling, inner state, and spiritual exploration. At the same time, the artist considers the union of mastery and concept essential, believing that visual language should be not only emotional but also meaningful.
An important focus of Tara’s Opalinski’s work is the abstract interpretation of Christian themes. His artworks represent an attempt to move beyond literal iconographic imagery and to touch deeper layers of spirituality through pure form, texture, color, and rhythm. His abstractions function as a kind of imageless iconography: they do not dictate a specific narrative but instead open a space for the viewer’s inner dialogue with their own faith, doubts, search, and personal realizations.
Through color, texture, and form, the artist seeks to convey truth — or at least to encourage deeper reflection and inner dialogue. His sources of inspiration include Christian faith, people, and their stories. For Opolynskyi, art is not only a profession but a calling, a form of service, and a way of life.
Taras Opalinski has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and internationally, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, Poland, and France. His works are held in private collections and museum collections.
Artist statement
In my artistic practice, I work with abstraction as a language of spiritual experience. My works are born intuitively — through inner states, reflection, and a process of seeking.
An important focus of my work is the abstract interpretation of Christian themes. I strive to move beyond literal iconographic imagery and to reach deeper layers of spirituality through pure form, texture, color, and rhythm. My abstractions can be described as a kind of imageless iconography — they do not illustrate specific narratives but instead create a space of presence. Within this space, the viewer remains alone with their own feelings, faith, doubts, and inner search.
For me, it is essential that a work unites both idea and mastery. The material itself is not decisive — I work with different media and forms, choosing them intuitively according to the inner impulse and concept of each piece. At the same time, painting is the language through which it feels most natural and direct for me to express my states, experiences, and spiritual explorations.
Art for me is a calling, a way of life, and a form of inner service. At the same time, I do not seek to impose faith or provide ready-made answers. My intention is to create a space where a person can pause, feel, reflect, and perhaps come closer to their own understanding of truth.
